Crystal Venne is your typical shoujo anime style protagonist, with the pastel purple hair to match! She's book smart with a passion for history and philosophy, but lacks real world experience. Her biggest hobby is collecting, restoring, and preserving old books, especially those before the war. She's extremely anxious and jumpy, with a tendency to jump out of her seat at sudden noises.

Crystal is an Enchanter type with the primary ability to see the past through visions. These visions come at uncontrollable times, usually when she is asleep or daydreaming and regularly interfere with her daily life. Her other ability is to read minds, which she is also unable to control. She hears thoughts as stream of consiousness, often overlapping and difficult to discern. Accidentally activating this ability in a crowded area leads to massive overstimulation and horrible imagery. She's also stuck to a potentially evil ghost who wants revenge lol

If it wasn't obvious enough in her powerset, I made this character in middle school as a symbol of my anxiety and how it manifests, especially in tandem with auditory processing issues. For me, it often feels like a million voices are speaking out at once and yet I can't understand a single one of them.

Relationships

Ghost is her girlfriend and the one who convinced her to join the rebellion. The two sometimes butt heads, but at the end of the day opposites attract. She is friends with the other rebels in Ghost's team, Diana and Hendrick, but gets along best with Daniel as both outsiders in the group. They are also the tall people duo in the team XD Crystal generally distrusts Wyn, but grows to respect him after the two are forced to work together. Outside of the main story, she also has a good relationship with her brother, Eric, and her childhood best friend, Emilia.

Her biggest enemy is the Enchantress, a ghost trying to possess her body and convince her to commit acts of revenge against those who ruined her. The two have a rivals to weird mother-daughter relationship arc. It's complicated...

Design Notes

  • Her hair is a little longer than waste length, usually styled in two braids (regular or bubble).
  • She prefers to wear pastel feminine colors, favoring purple and pink. Highlights of gold are usually used to indicate influence of the Enchantress, most prominent in her swap au (aka villain au) design.
  • I often use a lot of eye imagery in her fits and background designs. Gold eyes specifically are used to symbolize the influence of the Enchantress or the goddess Asteria.
  • she is a stringbean of a girl and shy about it.
  • Her eyes are two toned (mostly light blue with a yellow accent). They turn entirely yellow when using her abilities.

    • AUs and Alternate Designs

    I have a bajillion different AUs for her, but main ones are the swap AU and the peculiar AU.

    Swap AU: Crystal and Daniel swap roles in the story. This is Crystal's villain AU. She is initally trained as an assassin, but after learning to use her mind control abilities she manages to take over as ruler of the City of Stars.

    Peculiar Au: set in the Miss Peregrine's universe. Her peculiarity allows her to enter photographs and mirrors to communicate with ghosts and spirits.
