cw: ableism, implied abuse, maladaptive behaviors

After his parents died, Wynchester ("Wyn") was taken in by his aunt, who just so happens to be the dictator of their budding civilization. Oops. She only agreed to spare him and take him in because he looked like her freshly deceased brother, but after an accident left him permanently blind, she lost interest. Wyn grew up determined to prove his worth, finding the best way to prove it was to take the eye of his rivial in combat. For some reason, this does not make his best friend like him more.

Wyn is extremely arrogant, but its just a facade to hide how insecure he is. He has massive fears of abandonment and acts out because of it. He's an asshole but he's MY asshole and I forgive him!! In terms of powers, he has the ability to mimic any other character's abilities. He can also nullify and amplify the abilities of others. He's also extremely adept at hand to hand combat. Oh, and he can talk to ghosts, including the one following him around and encouraging him to commit crimes. Great.

Wyn is a projection of my own fears and experience with ableism, how being disabled has made me feel like I need to prove myself to be considered worthy. I forgive him of his many warcrimes for this.

Relationships

Wyn is Ghost's twin, but neither of them know this when they first meet. After their parents death, Wyn was taken in by their aunt and Ghost by a family friend, with both believing that the other child died in the fire that took their parents. Daniel is Wyn's main (one-sided) rival, after his aunt began to train Daniel to be her successor instead of him. Wyn is obsessed with Crystal because of her abilities and the powerful ghost linked to her. This is only topped by his obsession with Beowulf, his childhood best friend and ex-crush he he believes abandoned him. He also resents Chimera because of this, viewing them as the one to turn Beowulf against him.

Design Notes

  • in terms of imagery, I usually associate Wyn with themes of opulence, gambling, and royalty. He's not a prince but he is part of a dynasty and flaunts it. Lots of cards, dice, thrones, and crowns
  • Wyn is born blind in his left eye and lost sight in his right eye after an attack. I usually use white pupils to symbolize this.
  • He keeps his hair short.
  • His color palette consists of shades of black and grey with red accents. He also usually has either sunglasses or black goggles, which he wears during combat.
  • AUs and Alternate Designs

Swap AU: In this AU, Wyn and Ghost switch places. Wyn is taken in by their family friend and ends up growing up in the center of the rebellion. He's still arrogant, but he's a lot more respectful of others and knows when to back down.

Peculiar AU: Set in the universe of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, Wyn is an antagonist who uses his abilities to help the hollowghasts by tricking peculiars. His peculiarity lets him randomly shuffle the peculiarities of nearby peculiars.
